Message from the Director
The Motor Pool Staff and I want to personally express our thanks and
appreciation to you for doing business with us. We have been experiencing
continued success year after year, and it never could have happened without you.
As you may have noticed, we're doing many things in all areas of the Motor Pool
to enhance your traveling experience. The staff and I are dedicated to improving
the quality and selection of the service and products that we offer. We are
committed to providing each of you with personalized service. We launched our
new Policy and Procedures that give you in-depth knowledge of our operation; we
have invested in new communication equipment putting us on the leading edge of
technology and installed an E85 (ethanol) refueling station. We now are
providing around the clock Emergency Road Assistance, both Internet and E-mail
service, and Automobile Vehicle Requests on-line.
Our goal is to provide each of you with the most efficient means of fulfilling
your transportation needs. We believe that the Internet connectivity and
traveling the cyber-highway is a start in becoming more efficient. We are
committed to delivering a positive transportation experience. We will continue
to strive for excellence. It is our pleasure to serve you.

Alabama Legislature Act No 471, 1969
The Legislature of the State of Alabama, during the Regular Session 1969,
enacted Act No. 471 which was further amended by the Code of Alabama 1975, Title
41-17-3 through 41-17-8. This Act placed the responsibility of establishing a
transportation pool with the Department of Finance. The purpose of the State
Motor Pool is to provide motor vehicle transportation for state officers and
employees who do not have automobiles regularly assigned to them.
The State Motor Pool was physically located on Ripley Street between Pelham and
King Street from 1969 through 1985. The construction of the Gordon Persons
Building dictated the Motor Pool move to a temporary location until a new Motor
Pool could be built. The temporary home was at the corner of Coliseum Blvd and
Traffic Operations Drive in Montgomery, and was about 2 years in the making. On
December 1, 1987, the Motor Pool moved to the present location at 386 South
Ripley Street.
Currently, we have approximately 200 cars and vans, and provide transportation,
fuel, maintenance and other services to more than 220 different agencies. We
operate on a revolving fund and receive no monies from the general fund.
